When I moved to Bristol, jobless and penniless, Pertemps Recruitment Agency was my first port of call.  After a short interview with a friendly adviser, I took a typing test, passed it and had a job by the end of the week.  The initiation process was smooth and painless, and I found the staff to be genuinely accommodating and helpful.  I had a few different administrative based jobs courtesy of Pertemps, and was on an average wage of £7 per hour.  I never had any problems receiving my payment, which was paid directly into my bank account on a weekly basis (oh joy!)  An all round thumbs up for this one.

PLUS: All payments received on time and w/o hassle.  In-country tax problems resolved effectively.

MINUS: Contractual arrangements were more restrictive than other contract personnel on the same company/project/location – nett result: I paid more tax than others. When negotiating the rate, the agent talked as if a representative of the company, not my agent, or at least a go-between.

I came up with the idea for Recruitment Reviews about a year ago. I had been working in the Recruitment industry for around 5 years and found myself constantly coming across candidates who were unhappy about the service they were getting from recruiters (not me obviously). The thing that frustrated me about this was that clients still seemed to use the ‘bad’ agencies that were sending CVs without speaking to candidates, not giving feedback to candidates and generally misleading clients and candidates, amongst many other things. I also came across many companies (direct employers) that weren’t operating in the correct manner. They told us one thing then when they interviewed a candidate they told them something different. Candidates also told me about other bad practices which seemed to have become commonplace in certain companies. This is where Recruitment Reviews comes in.

Our Aims

- We want to encourage open and honest sharing of information

- People can post reviews of recruitment agencies, direct employers, service providers and job boards

- It is not a witch hunt or personal attack – all reviews and opinions are constructive

- The site is a place to praise good service and highlight poor service and standards

- The result will be improved service throughout the industry due to clients and candidates being able to make informed decisions on who they work for and with.
